Music and travel have been the keystone of Roma's life, both professionally and personally. After graduating from Melbourne University, Roma and her husband took their young family to live in London. Roma continued her music studies and also found time to embark on many journeys of discovery throughout Europe. It was during these early years that the seeds of a lifelong love of Europe and passion for new discoveries was sown.

On returning to Australia, Roma embarked fully on a successful professional career in music, ranging from performance and involvement in chamber music, to HSC music tuition and master classes, to presenting a series of educational lectures with music recitals by guest artists in her own home. In 1988 UTA French Airlines invited her to bring a group of friends to Europe, and Lingua Musica was born. Every year since then, Roma has accompanied small groups wishing to experience more out of travel than simply visiting each different city. On tour, music performances include orchestral and chamber concerts in the European music houses and recitals by distinguished guest artists. Roma herself also gives piano recitals and chamber music performances with talented string trios. ABC Radio personality, Clive Stark, recalls one particular instance when Roma performed with RUTH NYE, MBE, FRCM, in the hall of Grieg's house in Bergen, Norway. With the fjord seen through the glass wall behind the performers, it was a special highlight for him. Clive says: "The fact that Roma not only creates and leads these tours but is also able to perform on occasion for us, is surely very special indeed. I cannot imagine it happening on any other tour."

Roma's success for more than twenty years has been due to her combined passions of travel and music, and her commitment to providing quality European performances in diverse and interesting venues discovered many years ago, many still slightly off the beaten track.

TOUR MANAGER

Deborah developed a passion for all things European from family vacations to many exciting locations during an extended period living in London. After graduating from university, she enjoyed a successful sales and marketing
career, eventually managing her own technology consultancy for many years whilst raising her family.
Always a great lover of the Arts, Deborah became involved in Lingua Musica as time permitted, originally as a consultant. She manages the multitude of organisational tasks that constitute a successful tour and is very much hands-on in all aspects of "behind the scenes".
Deborah has travelled extensively in Europe, indulging in her combined passions of art and opera. She has undertaken a great many Music Lover and Arts courses and is looking forward to experiencing her most favourite operas in some of the great music houses of Europe, with like-minded friends.

RUTH NYE, MBE, FRCM

Australian born Ruth Nye, was invited to New York to study with Chilean maestro, Claudio Arrau, by Arrau himself after he heard her play in Australia. She continued to study and travel with Arrau extensively on concert tours over a period of 30 years, up until his death in 1991.

Ruth Nye had a distinguished career as a concert pianist, before turning her attention to teaching. She has built a widespread reputation as one of the world's foremost piano teachers. Ruth Nye is currently on the faculty of the Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey, UK and the Royal College of Music in London, UK. She holds master classes and lectures throughout the world.

Ruth Nye was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2007 Queen's Birthday Honours list. In 2008 a Fellowship of the Royal College of Music was conferred on her by HRH The Prince of Wales.

Lingua  Musica has been very honoured to have Ruth Nye join us on tour on many occasions in order to present some lecture/ piano recitals. With her great knowledge combined with a charming personality, she has delighted us all.

VALE CLIVE STARK
ABC RADIO ARTS PERSONALITY

During Clive’s long career of over three and a half decades in radio he covered the full spectrum of broadcasting from classical music to comedy. He will be remembered by his innumerable fans from his many ABC programs, such as “Baroque and Beyond”, and “Arts and Leisure”. His term as Trustee of the Victorian Arts Centre and his position as Broadcast Manager for 3MBS FM brought him into close contact with Arts in Australia and abroad.

Clive Stark has been a very popular escort and commentator on tour with Lingua Musica. He delivered excellent lectures on a variety of fascinating topics and we always enjoyed his lively input. His input on our tours was significant as well as entertaining and he always greatly enjoyed his time escorting our marvellous European Tours.

We bid farewell to Clive and will always remember his huge commitment to the arts in Australia. Sadly missed.
