Aix and Chorégies d'Orange Festivals

To many of us, Paris invokes images of love, beauty, art and culture. Enjoy six days of opera, classical music, art and culture in Paris plus day excursions to the surrounding regions, before travelling by TGV to Aix-en-Provence. Here we will savour the ‘Festival Internationale d'Art Lyrique et de Musique’ and Les Chorégies Festival of Opera in the ancient arena of nearby Orange. We will also explore Cezanne and Van Gogh, and take further day excursions to the beautiful and historically interesting city on the Rhone, Avignon, as well as St Remy-de-Provence, Les Baux and Glanum, exploring famous archeological sites, the astounding Ponte du Gard and Arles. A very different excursion will  take take us to the coast and the tiny port of Cassis and the nearby spectacular Les Callanques.


Our final destination is Nice, that jewel of a city on the Cote d'Azur. Our explorations from here will include Cannes and Cap d'Antibes, as well as the hillside locations of Vence and gorgeous Saint-Paul de Vence. In the other direction and via different levels of the great Corniche, we will visit Monaco, the splendid gardens of Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, and the tiny Cocteau Chapel at Villefranche. Our Nice segment will also feature classical music performance, as well as exploring interesting historical sites, and Matisse, Chagall and Picasso and the many other artists who were drawn to the special light of this fabulous part of the Mediterranean Coast.

Paris
- 2 opera and classical music performances at the Paris Opera and other important Parisian music venues
- 1 additional music performance in a Parisian church
- Guided walking tour incorporating many of the ctiy's landmarks, including visits to Palais Garnier and Salle Favert
- Guided visit to ‘Cite de la Musique’ and Salle Pleyel
- Escorted excursion to Giverny, where we will visit Monet’s house and garden
- Escorted excursion to either Fontainebleu and Barbizon, or the Chartres and the Loire Valley
 
Aix-en-Provence
- 2 ‘Festival d'Art Lyrique et de Musique’ (Aix-en-Provence) performances
- 1 Les Chorégies (Orange) performance
- Guided walking tour along the 'circuit de Cézanne' and other interesting landmarks
- Guided visit to the Musée Granet, where you will see16th-19th century Italian, Flemish, Dutch and French paintings (including Cézanne), as well as Roman artefacts
- Guided day excursions to Avignon, St-Remy de Provence, Les Baux , Glanum, Le Pont du Gard and Arles, as well as Cassis and Les Callanques.
 
NICE
- three classical performances, including two at the festival 'Les Nuits Musicales du Suquet', Cannes
- Guided visits to the museums of Chagall and Matisse
- Guided day excursion to Vence, including a visit to Chapel du Rosaire, St.Paul de Vence where we will visit the Fondation Maeght, Antibes and Cap d'Antibes, where we will visit the Musee de Picasso and a famous cafe to remain a surprise!
- Excursion along Corniche to Monte Carlo and back along Basse Corniche for lunch at St Jean Cap Ferrat, the superb gardens of the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild and the little chapel painted by Jean Cocteau at Villefranche.
